So about me: I am currently a senior at Fordham University in the Bronx. I was born and lived my entire life until college in Stamford, Connecticut. My grandparents owned Sabia’s Open Door there until I was seven when they sold the property, they were getting too old for it and the neighborhood turned from bad to worse. My love of food and cooking comes from the Italian side of my family. We hang out in the kitchen, we cook together, eat together, and fight in the kitchen, often not the greatest idea with all the sharp and blunt objects around. A few times I pushed my mom to far and almost lost some appendages.
While looking at colleges in high school I vaguely thought of applying to culinary school. My uncle did it straight out of high school and is now a chef in Arizona. But I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life at seventeen so I decided to take the traditional route and go to college and then decide. Now three years in I am glad I took the college path, but also wish I could drop out right now and go to culinary school. So my plan right now is to graduate, work to make some money, then go ether go to culinary school or work to get experience before opening my own place one day.
Until then I am just going to eat, cook, and experiment. And this blog will document those culinary failures and successes.

Sabia’s was a staple of my childhood – we went there all the time. I have never been able to replicate the taste of their pasta and sauces. My brothers and I were apparently really fond of spaghetti with butter! But I don’t know how your grandparents did it, but it tasted like heaven. I can’t figure out what else was in the butter because I’ve tried to melt regular butter over pasta, and it just doesn’t work.
