Big fan of Lent. Not for the whole giving up stuff part but for the fish on Friday part. Made sure to find time in my day today to head down to Cosenza’s Fish Market on Arthur Ave and get me some goodies.
I have had my eye on the whole shrimp there for a while. After learning from Bourdain how to suck the brains out of the head I have wanted to get my hands on some whole ones.
Though I would like to, man cannot live on shrimp alone. So I bought some little neck clams and one thing was on my mind, tomato sauce. Got a can of peeled tomatoes around the corner and headed home. Made tomato sauce and put the clams and shrimp right in it. It was delicious! Absolutely amazing! One of the best things I have made so far. But I cannot take all the credit, its hard to mess up shrimp. The whole shrimp though changed everything I thought I knew about shrimp. The brains were delicious but it was the flesh that blew my mind. The sign on the shrimp said Fresh Maine Shrimp. They had a texture most like fish then shrimp, very soft and not chewy at all.
You see those pasta. Called tortiglioni. Should be called impossible to pick up on a fork. They turned out to be the only bad part of this amazing meal.
Still got half a pound of the whole shrimp. Any suggestions for my lunch tomorrow?
